Geetmala - "An Exploration of South Asian Dance & Music"

Kala Vandanam is pleased to be a part of Season 9 on Geetmala, a Twin Cities cultural program created and produced by dedicated volunteers.

Full season schedule available at http://www.geetmalatv.com - Saturdays at 9pm from March 5 - May 29, 2010, with repeats on the following Sunday mornings. Program is aired on TPT MN.

Salangai Pooja - Apoorva Kanneganti

Suchitra Sairam is pleased to present her disciple Apoorva Kanneganti in her first public solo performance. Traditionally, the Salangai Pooja (prayer for the bells) is conducted after the dancer achieves a base level of competency, and is the first occasion on which a dancer wears her bells in public performance. The brief prayer will be followed by a one hour performance by Apoorva.

"Dakshina" - An Offering, Presented by Suchitra Sairam

Suchitra Sairam is pleased to collaborate with Samanvaya Arts to present "Dakshina" - An Offering. Suchitra will present signature choreographies from some of India's leading Bharatanatyam masters to honor her gurus and the community to mark the 20th Anniversary of her Arangetram.

All proceeds from the performance benefit the Bexar County Family Justice Center

Arangetram - Anjali Gopal

Kala Vandanam is pleased to present Anjali Gopal, a 15 year old sophomore at Woodbury Senior High School, in her Bharatanatyam debut performance. Anjali is the first Kala Vandanam student to be presented in an Arangetram.

Varunapuri Kuravanji - The Divine Gypsy

Suchitra Sairam performs one of the lead roles as the Kurathi in the dance drama Varunapuri Kuravanji. The production is presented as a part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Nritya School of Bharatanatyam, founded by one of Suchitra's gurus, Smt. Padmini Chari.
